Elliott wins No. 200 ASHLAND -- Paul Elliott recorded his 200th victory as Southern Oregon University volleyball coach earlier this season. On Saturday night at McNeal Pavillion, Elliott engineered the biggest upset in his nine-year tenure at Southern Oregon when the Raiders knocked off sixth-ranked Northwest Nazarene, 10-15, 15-13, 15-9, 10-15 and 15-6. The victory propelled the unranked Raiders (13-2, 4-0 Cascade Conference) into sole possession of first place in the Cascade Conference. Southern Oregon's eighth consecutive win and fourth in as many nights snapped a nine-match Crusader win streak. Northwest Nazarene, the 1998 NAIA runner-up, fell to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in conference. "Obviously, this is a great win for our program," said Elliott. "To beat a team that finished second in the country last year proves we're ready to take the next step. But we also realize it was only the fourth league match of the year and there's a lot more work to be done." After the Crusaders came back from an 8-5 deficit in game 4 to tie the match at two games apiece, Raider senior setter Erin Lytle uncorked four aces during a torrid 14-0 run in the decisive final game to seal the win. Southern Oregon senior outside hitter Monica Fisher had six of her career-high 20 kills in the final game. "Monica is playing so well that she's becoming unstoppable at the net," said Elliott. "She's had so many big matches for us already in this young season." Raider middle blocker Kacee Jacobsen of Eagle Point added 15 kills and Lytle finished with match-highs of 63 assists, 19 digs and five aces.
