Cassandre Lynn McClellan, 29, of Medford and her passenger Eric William Stanley, 33, of Jacksonville, crashed into a legally parked semitrailer in a gold Buick Rendezvous SUV near Upper Applegate and Hamilton roads at approximately 10:15 p.m. Tuesday. According to a release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, witnesses reported that the vehicle had been passing others on the road at high speeds minutes prior to the crash. Although the crash occurred near the Applegate Valley Fire District station and emergency services personnel were able to respond quickly, the victims reportedly suffered extensive injuries in the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene, the news release said. The vehicle was reported to be heavily damaged, and emergency crews had to extricate the victims, the sheriff's department reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office will do toxicology tests, officials said.
