Challengers quickly defeat Bonanza twice District 6 baseball WHITE CITY -- Cascade Christian's Tim Alvarez and Bryan Edwards pitched like they were in a hurry to get somewhere else in a District 6 doubleheader Saturday against Bonanza. Neither hurler needed more than five innings as fifth-ranked Cascade Christian (12-0, 4-0) swept the Antlers (5-4, 4-2) inside three hours for both contests. "It was over fast," Cascade Christian coach John Bruce said. "It was speed rules. The umpires couldn't believe it." Alvarez threw 49 pitches in winning the opener, 15-0, in 1 hour, 30 minutes. He allowed only two hits with 10 strike-outs in improving to 4-0. Alvarez also did the job at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and six RBIs. Taking it one step further, Edwards came within a dropped fly ball of a perfect game in the nightcap as Cascade Christian prevailed, 10-0. The second game lasted only 59 minutes, with Edwards needing only 43 pitches to strike out seven and improve to 5-0. "We weren't even thinking no-hitter at the time," Bruce said of Edwards' near perfect game. "It was going so fast we didn't have time to think about anything like that." Nolan Roberts had two triples and four RBIs in the opener for the Challengers, while Alvarez and Aaron Beamish each had two hits and two RBIs in the nightcap. Andy Bellamy had two doubles in the second game and Nick Ristow added two hits.
