ECONOMY Trucking firm closing Grants Pass site Core-Mark has 49 employees in warehouse and office Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 31, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Aug. 31, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Grants Pass Daily Courier GRANTS PASS — Core-Mark International, which has occupied a warehouse on Northeast F Street for more than 20 years, will shut down most of its operations at that location next week, according to a corporate spokesman. Core-Mark trucks serve the convenience store industry around the country, and will continue to serve this area out of the Sacramento and Portland divisions, said Milton Draper, director of investor relations at headquarters in South San Francisco. The 49 people working in the warehouse and office at 303 N.E. F St. were offered jobs at those divisions, Draper said. Only three of them will stay on the job in Grants Pass through the end of the year. Local stores should continue to see the same drivers and sales people. Draper also said trucks will still stage at the F Street facility until the end of the year. Then Core-Mark will operate a small sales office and truck lot somewhere else in Grants Pass. "This should be seamless for our customers," Draper said. Core-Mark first leased the location in 1994, said property owner Debbie Brownell of Brownell-Reed Investments, which bought the property in 2006 from the Broer family. "We're sorry they're leaving our community, but we know things change," Brownell said. "We are grateful to them as a tenant. They've been good to work with. "The space has always been inadequate for them, but it's always been so cheap they hung on," Brownell said. Brownell said potential tenants have already inquired about the facility, which has 43,000 square feet. The original building on the site was built in 1946, when Broer Grocery wholesalers set up shop, said Kathy Gallagher, granddaughter of one of the founders. The facility was expanded three more times, Gallagher said. Broer leased the facility in 1980 to Glaser Brothers, which was followed by Core-Mark. Draper said the decision to close down the Grants Pass division had to do with the shift with convenience stores going to "more fresh food that's good for you."
