According to a sheriff's office news release, deputies responded at 1:13 a.m. to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 6000 block of Table Rock Road. Deputies found the victim, 43-year-old Sterling Ford Cavanaugh, dead at the scene. The release says the deputies suspect alcohol played a role in the crash. Harris was arrested on charges of first- and second-degree manslaughter and lodged in the Jackson County Jail. Jail records show deputies have since added charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, recklessly endangering another and reckless driving. Harris is being held on more than $2 million bail. Deputies say the Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team and the Medford Police Department are assisting in the investigation, which may take several weeks to complete.
