Prospect boy hurt in bike-pickup crash An 11-year-old Prospect boy suffered a broken leg Thursday evening when he was struck by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle to football practice. The boy was undergoing surgery Thursday night for a fractured femur at Rogue Valley Medical Center, said Jackson County sheriff's Deputy Ken Myres. The boy -- who deputies declined to identify -- and another 11-year-old were riding their bicycles south on Mill Creek Drive about 4:05 p.m. Thursday, heading to Prospect High School for football practice. At the same time, Bennett Borden, 17, of Prospect, was driving a 1996 Ford pickup with two passengers north on Mill Creek after leaving the high school, Myres said. According to witness statements, the 11-year-old boy swerved about five feet out into the road in front of the pickup and was struck by the pickup. "He wasn't paying attention and swerved his bike into the lane of an oncoming lane," Myres said. No one else was injured in the accident.
