Mail Tribune 100: April 27, 1916 The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 27, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted Apr. 27, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News April 27, 1916 PROSECUTOR BUSY WITH LIQUOR CASES Lizzie Thurman Colby, arrested yesterday in Hornbrook Cal., on a warrant issued in this county charging her with contributing to the delinquency of minor girls, was brought to this city last evening and taken to the county jail at Jacksonville last night, there to await preliminary hearing before Justice Taylor's court tomorrow. Tomorrow, also, will be heard the case of Arthur Diltz and Mrs. Viola Stone, of the Elwood rooming house, and Mrs. Lola Hill, of the Carns rooming house, on the charge of selling liquor. Prosecuting Attorney Kelly will appear for the state in all of these cases. Following the conviction of Ranse Rouse yesterday in Ashland for distributing advertising matter for California liquor houses in this state, for which he was fined $200, Prosecutor Kelly has had warrants issued for several of those enterprising business institutions for sending whiskey advertisements to this county for distribution. These are the first warrants of this nature issued in this state, as Rouse's conviction was the first for this violation in the state. Attorney Porter J. Neff, for Ranse Rouse, will appeal the latter's case on the ground that the fine is excessive. GRIZZLIES PLAN TO VISIT CAMP NICK The Grizzlies' trip to Camp Nick, scheduled for Sunday, April 30, promises to be exceptionally interesting. Beautiful mountain scenery, bracing mountain zephyrs and exciting mountain stream fishing in Big Butte will contribute to the activities of the excursion. The P. & E. special will leave Medford at 7 o'clock in the morning and will arrive at Butte Falls about 9 o'clock. The remaining distance will be covered on foot. On the return the train will arrive in Medford about 7 p.m. Each member of the party should take an abundant lunch and a spoon and cup. Grizzlies are privileged to invite their friends.
