He was born October 9, 1937, the second child of Efton and Anna Kerns Hamilton in Florence, Kans. He grew up with five sisters and one brother. Gene graduated from Carbondale High School in 1956. He served in the United States Navy as a flight Captain aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington and continued in active service at Moffett Field in Mountain View, Calif. After leaving the Air Force, Gene began a new career at the U.S. Postal Service. In 1961 he met and married Linda Hooks. Gene and Linda moved from Mountain View to Ashland, Oregon in 1964 where they adopted their two children, Michael and Jodi. Gene loved to deliver mail with a smile and a story or joke. In 1992 Gene retired from the post office in Medford, Ore. after 33 years of employment. After his retirement he remained very active, periodically buying a new residence and turning it into a beautiful home. Gene met Kathy Warren in 2001. They enjoyed sharing their love for antiquing, gardening, and caring for animals. He was very close to Kathy's family who liked to call him “Gene Gene.” Gene is survived by Kathy Warren; son, Michael Hamilton (Virginia); daughter, Jodi Eichensehr (Rob); two grandsons, Mason and Luke Eichensehr; three sisters, Margie Mason of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Pat Harrison of Eureka, Kans., and Judy Shively of Carbondale, Kans.; brother, Terry Hamilton of Topeka, Kans.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Jo Burkett and Edie Hamilton. Gene will always be remembered for his laughter; great stories; sense of humor; and most important, his love of family, friends, and golf. Please join us in a celebration of Gene’s life to be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2016 at The Scottish Rite Temple, 3581 Lear Way, Medford, Oregon. Please RSVP: 541-621-4678.
