Man sentenced for sexual abuse A 54-year-old Medford man was sentenced Tuesday for the sexual abuse of a girl under 16 years old. Jackson County Judge Rebecca Orf sentenced Evelio Viramontes to 30 days in jail and five years' probation on a single count of third-degree sex abuse. Orf permitted Viramontes to serve out his sentence in work-release -- free to attend work but jailed at all other times -- and recommended that he be ineligible for early release. The victim's mother told the court that she strongly agreed with no early release because Viramontes' family had harassed her and her daughter. "He did terrible things to my daughter, and he has not even admitted all that he did to her," she said. Mail Tribune Copyright   The Mail Tribune 1998, Medford, Oregon USA
