Trudy Butler Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Feb. 8, 2015 @ 2:00 am Posted Feb. 8, 2015 @ 2:00 am » Social News Trudy Butler passed away peacefully January 28, 2015 at Breckinridge Adult Foster Home in Talent, Ore., where she received loving care for the past three years. She was born November 10, 1926 to parents Alfred and May Haney in Garfield County, Mont. where she grew up working the ranch. Trudy's class of eight girls graduated from Cohagen High School in 1943. The fine young men in her class had all volunteered for WWII as soon as they came of age. Trudy, 16, and her sister Kathryn, 18, joined the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corp, but the war ended before they finished training. Trudy worked at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, Mont. before joining friends in Phoenix, Ariz. where she met and married Robert Shelton. They moved to Missoula, Mont., where she completed her Registered Nurses Degree at the University of Montana. After a few years in California they moved to Oregon to their Needmore Ranch on Needmore Rd in Sams Valley. Trudy's first job in Medford was at the Community Hospital on East Main St. The hospital sent her for continuation training, and upon her return, she became the Head Nurse in the Recovery Room of the new Rogue Valley Medical Center. Before it opened in 1960, she helped design the Recovery Room and oversaw future renovations as the hospital grew. During a career spanning 27 years, the Recovery Room went from one RN to a team of many more, including the Short Stay Unit. If you had surgery at RVMC between 1960 and 1984, she, and eventually her team, were there to care for you. Bob died in 1981, and Trudy retired in 1984. She met Joe Butler of Ashland on a blind date in 1987. They had five dates that first week and were married after a whirlwind courtship of about 75 days! They said "At our age time is wasting!" Besides her loving husband Joe, Trudy is survived by her daughter, Dianne Jacobson of Jacksonville, Ore.; her granddaughter, Kim (Mark) Thompson, their sons Devin and Keston of Williams, Ore.; her grandson Mike (Ronnie) Jacobson, their sons, Carson and Owen, of Jacksonville, Ore.; Joe's daughter, Sheila (Chance) Beck of Little Elm, Texas, their son, Dustin and family; Joe's daughter, Marie (Mark) Tynan, and their son, Kenny of Maricopa, Ariz. Trudy's surviving siblings are, Barbara Jean Best (BJ) of Bullhead City, Ariz. and Alfred (Baiba) Haney of Sacramento, Calif. The family gives our heartfelt thanks to Breckinridge Adult Foster Home and Asante Hospice for treating Trudy with dignity, respect, and love at the end of her life. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. February 14, 2015 at Ruch Community Bible Church, 190 Upper Applegate Road, Jacksonville, with lunch to follow.
