Ashland asks people to reduce water use ASHLAND -- The city of Ashland is asking residents to immediately limit their water use to only what is necessary. The request, issued Saturday afternoon, is because of many broken water lines: Ashland public works director Paula Brown said crews have made at least 100 house calls for water leaks. Water usage has increased to 2 times the normal demand for this time of year. The city is keeping up with demand, but issued the request as a precautionary measure. City crews are finding various leaks a little at a time during the gradual thaw. If the temperatures remain the same, all of the leaks should be detected and corrected by Monday at the latest. The city asks that people report any leaks, especially if a neighbor is out of town and there are suspected problems. The city will advise when normal water use can resume.
