He was born June 23, 1941 in Esterville, Iowa to Claire John and Alice (Bortvit) Eike. He graduated from Esterville High School and attended junior college. James joined the U.S. Army and was in the reserves for five years. He moved to California to pursue his education, then went to work for Citi-Bank. He was then transferred to Portland, Ore., where he met his wife, Nina King. They were married June 1, 1974. Jim was later transferred to Medford, Ore. Being an outdoorsman, this was a dream come true for him. Jim enjoyed camping, fishing, and was also a bad golfer. He was a Duck fan all the way. Jim said that he wanted his tombstone to read, "I was a fine dancer." He was also the very best grandfather. Jim is survived by his wife, Nina; stepdaughters, Vicki Cool and Linda Di Donato; grandchildren, Don Everett, Jeramis McFadden, Darren Ferrell, Christine Dorsett, Elicia Bingham, and Stepheni McFadden; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Shirely Rubis of Lakefield, Minn.; brother, Claire John Jr. (Margaret) Eike of Nixa, Mo.; sister, Maree Ann (Bill) Hansen of Sun City West, Ariz.; and brother, Denny (Ann) Eike of Scottsdale, Ariz. He was preceded in death by stepson, Steven King and brother, Terry Eike of Tempe, Ariz. Jim's family would like to thank Providence Hospice for all they have done. In lieu of flowers, they request donations be made to Providence Hospice or a charity of your choice. A private service will be held later this summer.
