The crash also started a small grassfire, which was quickly extinguished. Theodore W. Brandon, 42, of the 300 block of Rapp Road, was eastbound on West Rapp Road at about 6:10 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a sharp curve near the Central Oregon Pacific Railroad tracks, Jackson County sheriff’s Capt. Joe Puckett said. Witnesses told police that Brandon had popped his bike onto one wheel as he headed toward the Talent city limits. His 1992 Kawasaki Ninja skidded about 320 feet, crashed through warning signs that mark the curve and hit a utility pole, Puckett said. Brandon was tossed about 75 feet from where the bike landed. It burst into flames, he said. Advertisement Witnesses traveling the county road stopped and pulled Brandon back to the side of the road out of reach of the fire. He was wearing a helmet, but appeared to be seriously injured, Puckett said. Brandon’s shoe and the windscreen from his bike lay at the edge of the burned area while deputies gathered information for their investigation. Talent and Phoenix police also assisted at the accident scene. Jackson County Fire District No. 5 and Oregon Department of Forestry rushed to put out the fire, which burned a patch of blackberry brambles, but was quickly contained. Ashland Fire and Rescue transported Brandon to Providence Medford Medical Center. No information on his condition was available Wednesday night.
