The victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest during the struggle shortly before noon in the 900 block of Worchester Drive, according to the Medford Police Department. Though his wound was initially described by police as life-threatening, the victim was listed Monday evening in serious condition but stable at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said. The victim, who is a convicted felon and barred legally from possessing a firearm, had taken a 9 mm pistol owned by his father, who was trying to get it back when the struggle and shooting occurred, Budreau said. Budreau declined to identify the men while the case continued to be investigated. No one was arrested Monday, and no one else was in the residence when the shooting occurred, Budreau said. The father called police to report the shooting at 11:46 a.m., sending police cars, an ambulance and paramedics swarming to the neighborhood off Rossanley Drive. The victim was shirtless when he was pulled out of the house and whisked away to the hospital. The father remained at the house and was cooperating with police. The father eventually left the scene in a police detective's vehicle. Reach Mail Tribune reporter Mark Freeman at 541-776-4470 or [email protected] .
