Cascade serves befuddle Bonanza CENTRAL POINT � Amy Roseberg demonstrated that an accurate serve can be just as effective as a hard one in Southern Cascade League volleyball Tuesday night Roseberg served for seven points in the opening game and 12 in the next as No. 9 Cascade Christian blasted Bonanza 15-5, 15-2 at Scenic Middle School. The Challengers improved to 4-2 in the SCL. "Amy serves a really good float serve," Cascade Christian coach Susan Gmur said. "She�s real consistent and moves the ball around. She�s a very effective server." Roseberg, a 5-foot-9 junior right-side hitter, also contributed two kills. "We put in a couple of plays that we have included her in and she�s running them really well," said Gmur. Sophomore outside hitter Krystle Holtz led the Challengers attack with seven kills and senior middle Kelly Clarke added three kills. Junior setter Whitney Brookins quarterbacked the Challengers attack with excellent distribution. "Whitney delivered the ball to a lot of hitters and ran a lot of different combinations," said Gmur. "We seemed very prepared tonight. We did not let up. We went even harder in the second game." ST. MARY�S 16-15, CHILOQUIN 14-8 � At Chiloquin, the Crusaders had to make a dramatic comeback in the first game to keep their perfect conference record intact. Down 7-2, St. Mary�s battled back behind senior Lani Brophy�s setting to eventually win the game. Brophy ended the night with 30 assists, eight digs and was 18-for-20 at the service line. Senior Kristen Zielony had 15 kills and 10 digs for the Crusaders. The Crusaders (15-3, 6-0 SCL) take on sixth-ranked Oakland Friday, and Gold Beach Saturday. Both are non-league matches. BUTTE FALLS TAKES TWO FROM NEW HOPE � At Grants Pass, junior setter Jessica Dunlap had 13 assists in Butte Falls� Skyline A League doubleheader sweep. The Loggers won by 15-7, 15-3 and 15-0, 15-7 counts. Senior Elizabeth McLauchlan executed well with eight kills on 10 attempts. Sophomore Krystle Rowley had nine aces. Butte Falls (8-2, 7-0 Sky A) travels to Elkton Friday night for a non-conference match.
