Extension cord to blame for Butte Falls Highway fire Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 24, 2016 at 10:45 AM Posted Mar. 24, 2016 at 10:45 AM » Social News A damaged extension cord caused a Sunday morning fire that destroyed a house and above-ground pool at 600 Butte Falls Highway, fire investigators said today. The fire started at about 8 a.m. in the living room, according to a release from Jackson County Fire District 3. Smoke alarms alerted the residents, who escaped safely. The house was ablaze when crews arrived. Seven engines and water tenders from District 3, Jackson County Fire District 4 and Medford Fire-Rescue battled the blaze. The home was located up a long driveway and considerable distance from any water source. Crews set up a portable tank at the location, with tenders hauling in water on a rotation. The home, above-ground pool and a small shed were destroyed. Estimated damage totaled $130,000, the release said. Several other structures on the property were saved.
