Oregon Department of Forestry fire prevention specialist Brian Ballou said that his agency became aware of the fire at about 5:15 p.m. Monday, and air crews were dispatched to the scene. Ballou said that the fire's activity had begun to decrease around sunset and this enabled crews to continue their work overnight and "run around" the fire using bulldozers to build fire lines. Ballou said that the fire had been moving east following available fuel with little to no assistance from wind or other factors. About 120 personnel from ODF, the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management and various private contractors worked on controlling the blaze Monday. At one point, two air-tankers based out of Redmond were also used. Ballou said that the fire was on private land and there were some remote cabins in the area, though he had heard no information about there being any structure damage as of Monday night. —Mat Wolf (The name of the fire has been clarified in this story.)
