DAR to dedicate Alba Park elm; replaces tree planted in 1928 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 26, 2016 at 10:47 AM Posted Apr. 26, 2016 at 10:47 AM » Social News The Crater Lake Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will dedicate a new tree in Alba Park on Friday, May 6. The Valley Forge elm replaces a Washington elm that was planted by the chapter in 1928. That tree was a scion of an elm in Cambridge, Mass., where George Washington took command of the Continental Army. The Washington elm in Alba Park blew over in a windstorm in 2007, according to a release from the chapter. The original marker was found among the roots of the tree. Members will first meet at 10 a.m. at the Rogue Valley Genealogy Library, 3405 S. Pacific Highway, Medford, then adjourn to Alba Park at 11 a.m. to dedicate a new DAR marker at the Valley Forge elm, which already has been planted. All members, prospective members and the community are invited to the dedication ceremony. For more information, call 541-245-6699.
