Crater placed seventh out of 14 teams in the toughest of two divisions. It included six of the top 12 teams in Oregon and six of the top 11 in Washington. "It was a really strong field," said Comets coach Justin Loftus. Mead, Wash., ranked sixth nationally, won the meet with 92 points, two ahead of Central Catholic of Portland, ranked second in Oregon. Advertisement Jesuit, No. 1 in Oregon, placed fourth with 127 points. Unranked Crater scored 189 points and finished ahead of top-10 Oregon teams Sheldon and Sunset. Central Catholic’s Galen Rupp, ranked second in the nation, won the boys 5,000-meter race in 15 minutes, 7 seconds. The course actually measured about 100 yards longer than advertised, said Loftus, and prevented Rupp from clocking the nation’s top time. Isaac Stoutenburgh led the Comets — who all set personal bests — with a time of 15:59 to place 11th. Other Crater scorers were Geoff Donaldson, 28th, 16:31; Sam Jacobson, 41st, 16:45; Brandon Reavis, 48th, 16:57; and Jake Keyser, 61st, 17:10. "It was a fast course," said Loftus, despite the extra length. The Comet girls got a fourth-place finish from Kendel Nelson but placed 11th out of 13 teams. Nelson came within two seconds of the PR she set last year, going 18:59 for 5,000 meters. "That should place her pretty high in the state for individuals," said Loftus. The winner, Brie Selnagoe of Bellarmine Prep of Washington, clocked 18:31. Bellarmine won the girls race with 73 points, followed by Jesuit at 76. Also for Crater, Sharon Kent was 53rd in 21:26, and Lori Barrett, a freshman, was 60th in 21:45, setting a PR by three minutes. South Medford competed in the second division and placed second in the boys 14-team race with 101 points, one behind Westview. The Panthers’ Chris McLean placed sixth in 16:38, followed by Noah Lewis in 12th in 17:10 and Zach Harris in 13th in 17:14. South’s girls were seventh among 13 teams, led by 12th-place Amy Finney’s time of 21:07. District 6 Girls Soccer HIDDEN VALLEY 11, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0 — At Nina Jaramillo had two goals and two assists and Amber Jones scored three consecutive goals in an 18-minute span of the second half as Hidden Valley stayed unbeaten in league. Jaramillo tallied 30 seconds into the match as the Mustangs (10-0-1, 5-0 Dist. 6) rolled to a 6-0 lead. Jones made it 9-0 with her run of goals, two of which came on headers. Shea Ford and Dani Lindgren each added two goals and Anna Hoone had three assists for Hidden Valley. Other Mustang goals came from Jill Elder and Ashley Elledge. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 1, WESTSIDE CHRISTIAN 1 — At Lake Oswego, Kim Woodhead’s chip sprang Katie O’Brien on a breakaway for Cascade Christian’s only goal in the nonconference tie. After O’Brien’s 10th-minute tally, Westside Christian responded in the 29th by finishing when the ball stuck in the mud in front of the Challengers’ goal. Cascade (5-3-2) outshot the Eagles, 20-7, including 14-4 in the second half. The Challengers continue their road trip in Albany against Santiam Christian today. SOC Boys Soccer ROSEBURG 3, SPRINGFIELD 0 — At Roseburg, senior forward Taylor Stone scored two goals to lead the Indians to a nonleague win over the Millers. Stone broke the net in the fifth minute for the Indians (7-4) off an assist from Erik Fabrizius, who later added an insurance goal in the 67th minute. Stone also scored off a corner kick with the assist to Casey Sjogren. Sophomore Cuyler Ziegler earned the shutout in the net for Roseburg. District 3 Boys Soccer ST. MARY’S 7, EAST LINN CHRISTIAN 0 — At Lebanon, Sean Snider and Austin Grant each scored two goals to lead the Crusders (4-0 District 3) to a rout over East Linn Christian. St. Mary’s also got goals from Michael Staver, Duncan MacDiarmid and Chris Burwell. Grant scored on a penalty kick and on a 25-yard bomb late in the second half. Junior Dylan Bourke earned the shutout in the net for the Crusaders.
