Transient camp found at Central Point school CENTRAL POINT � Police on Thursday seized property, camping gear and a large knife belonging to transients who had been caught allegedly camping on school property. According to Central Point police Sgt. Tony McPherson, a group of Jewett Elementary School students were playing near the southeast corner of the soccer field when they spotted a strange man. "He came out of the bushes and startled them," McPherson said. "It scared some of them." The man did not menace or threaten the students, McPherson added. School officials quickly contacted Central Point police, who were unable to locate the stranger. After finding the campsite, the property was seized. The camp was set up in an area filled with tall grass and brush near a bike path off of Manzanita Street. Although a fence separated the camp and the soccer field, McPherson said the camp was situated on property that belonged to School District 6. Police posted a receipt where the camp was found informing the property owners they could pick up their belongings at the police station. So far, McPherson said nobody has come forward to claim the items. If the men are caught or come forward. they will be issued a citation for criminal trespass, McPherson said. "Hopefully we�ll find them at that spot if they return." Although students only spotted one man, a school janitor reportedly spotted two adult males near the campsite in the past and warned them to leave, McPherson said.
