The businesses that sold to a minor volunteer during the Dec. 28-30 compliance check include: Rose Grocery at 201 W. Jackson St.; Round Table Pizza at 953 Medford Center; Elk City Market at 3338 N. Pacific Highway; Lava Lanes at 2980 Crater Lake Highway; Spicers Restaurant & Dessertery at 3603 Crater Lake Highway; Guadalajara Family Mexican Restaurant at 2332 Poplar Drive; Original Roadhouse Grill at 2699 Jacksonville Highway; and Ali’s Thai Kitchen at 2392 N. Pacific Highway. Store clerks who sell to a minor or fail to verify their age are cited into court and face a $360 fine. Servers and bartenders face administrative sanctions, including fines or license suspensions. The 19 businesses that refused to sell to the minor include: Purple Parrot at 940 Biddle Road; Rite Aid at 981 Medford Center; Minute Market stores at 2521 Table Rock Road and 610 E. Main St.; Thrifty Nifty Market at 223 W. Jackson St.; Mario’s Sandwiches at 215 E. Jackson St.; Colony Far East at 236 N. Front St.; Flamingo’s Pizzeria at 1205 Stewart Ave.; HighWaters Nightclub & Lounge at 333 E. Main St.; Sherm’s Thunderbird Market at 2347 Jacksonville Highway; The Hungry Woodsman at 2310 Crater Lake Highway; Break Room/Billiard Cafe at 707 Medford Center; Porter’s at 147 N. Front St.; Sambuca at 410-A E. Main St.; Joe’s Sports Bar & Grill at 201 Roberts Road; Beijing House at 510 N. Riverside Ave.; Zach’s Deli at 1310-F Center Drive; Si Casa Flores at 960 N. Phoenix Road and Silver Dragon at 1011 Spring St. Compliance testing is done as part of OLCC’s goal of reducing drinking by minors, OLCC spokesman Ken Palke said. During the checks, underage volunteers work with an OLCC inspector and try to buy alcohol from businesses to see if they are properly checking identification and obeying state law prohibiting alcohol sales to anyone under 21. Volunteers carry their own identification and are not permitted to lie about their age.
