But it wasn’t until the pair reached Salem that the 36-year-old woman was able to escape the man and drive away in her company’s 30-foot box truck, leaving him near a freeway off-ramp. Corey D. Cluphf, 25, of Aberdeen, Wash., was arrested on charges of first-degree kidnapping and coercion at about 5:40 a.m. Sunday near Salem, according to an Oregon State Police report. The woman, who was not identified to protect her safety, is from Montesano, Wash. The incident began as the pair returned from delivering floral products to California, police indicated. As they were driving through Southern Oregon, Cluphf apparently became angry and threatened to kill his boss with a gun. The woman convinced Cluphf to stop near Grants Pass for a restroom break. She took a cell phone with her and attempted to call a business partner when Cluphf discovered her and took her back to the 1991 Nissan truck. Advertisement The woman indicated that Cluphf threatened her life again and said he’d use the gun against police officers as well. When the pair got to exit 260, the Chemawa Road exit near Salem, the man stopped the truck. The woman was able to get inside the vehicle and drive away. At about 5:30 a.m., the woman’s business partner contacted Oregon State Police. Keizer Police Department officers spotted Cluphf near the top of the freeway off-ramp. With the help of Keizer officers, Marion County Sheriff’s Department deputies and OSP troopers, Cluphf was taken into custody. He was lodged in the Marion County Jail. An OSP dispatcher contacted the woman, who had continued driving north on Interstate 5. A trooper spotted her at about 6 a.m. near milepost 267.
