MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 8, 2014 @ 12:01 am Posted Aug. 8, 2014 @ 12:01 am » Social News Have the rangers at Crater Lake located the snowshoer, Cam Parnell, who went missing last May? There were indications that he might have fallen over the rim.  — Larry Smith, Jacksonville  Unfortunately, Larry, 31-year-old Cameron Blake Parnell of Mount Juliet, Tenn., is still missing, a park official said.  Picking up the search effort early this summer, searchers slowly circled the entire lake shore twice, researched the area of the caldera slope where he is believed to have fallen and searched down to 80 feet below the lake surface off the shore below that area, said Marsh McCabe, a spokeswoman for Crater Lake National Park. "We've not found anything, sadly," McCabe said. "We're still certainly on the alert to anything unusual." Parnell was last seen April 28 in the area of a collapsed snow cornice near the crater rim. Parnell had been hiking between the Rim Village and Garfield Peak, but he veered off the typical route, park officials said. Parnell had rented snowshoes at Rim Village, and searchers found tracks along the Garfield Peak trail, ending at a point where it appeared the cornice — a large overhang of snow — had collapsed. Melting snow and extremely dangerous terrain at the point where the cornice collapsed limited search efforts during most of spring. Send questions to “Since You Asked,” Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
