After grandfather's deet;e, grandmother went to live
with her parents. Exactly one year after his death, Rosends,
her 18 yeer old daughter died of a heart attack.
Foe six years grandmother and her parents lived at
Los Alamos. ThPn her father was elected probate judge so
they moved to Las Vegas. That year grandmother's daughter,
Lele, twelve yeers old, died of heart trouble.
tier oldest son, Begin, married, and then her oldest
daughter Cleotilde, married and both left her. In 1917
great grandmother mortgaged the laet of her land and all
their money ended. They had little to live on except the
p nsion which great granomother received because her hus-
band bed fought in the Civil War.
In 1918 great grandmether lo.ned the Sisters of Mercy
one thousand dollars to tele build the St. Anthony's Mercy
Hoseital at Pocatello, Idaho. Great grandmother, Mrs. Severe
Baca, eterted goieg blind. Two years later she went com-
pletely blind and died.
Grendmother stayed with mober part of the time. The
other pert of the time she was in Denver with her grand-
chilren. In 1928 grandmother's oldest daughter, Cleotilde,
died. Grandmother took the death calmly. That spring she
left fee Pocatello, Idaho to visit with her daughter Sister
M. Dolores. She stayed only a short time for she got home-
sick for her grandcildren in Las Vegas and returned.
That year sh,P started reciving ten dollrs a month

She has alwayli ben resigned to God's will and no matter

died and she took the nwts of his death calmly T:hile te

In 1935 ryr only remaining son, Ilario, died. Mother,
gr:,ndmother, and I were 7,rr,s,nt when he died. I faw her
kneeling tere, praying to God, offering Him the soul of
son. Not terl. did Ole shod. She comforted Mother

met a stronger, braver waman. She has lofA everytning now,
but her great faith in God.
Today is her birthdtLy. She is 66 years old and still
as harpy ES he wrr when I first remember. About a year
_go she became totally blind. Ale admit it for the
world, but we could se that couldn't evil find her soon
or anything. I h vp seen her at the point of death, smiling
L%n(i even telling us that she was feeling better.
In Octob,i-r she received the last Sacralents. She

believed, es we die, that she was dying. But now she
s ems to be getting better and better. It saddens meitou
see her reduced to !Alch a state --she who hrA been brought
ue like a princes. now dying like a eauper, with eit a
penny to her name, while -those relatives of her husband'
Are really wealthy.
File can beer anything herself but as soon as she sees
her daughter or her grAidchildren unhyppy, she's unheepy
too and does her utmort to cheer them. She hee more life
in her then all the rest of ue put together. She really
gives ix, strength when we are discouraged end feel like
quitting.
She is the ha eiest women I heve ever known.
