The Mountaineers swept the doubleheader from the Raiders 1-0 and 3-2, but Southern Oregon benefited from stumbles by Northwest Christian and College of Idaho. Corban swept Northwest Christian to eliminate the Beacons from playoff contention, while C of I split with Oregon Tech. The net result is that the Raiders (30-22, 11-13 CCC) need only one win in its final four regular-season games to clinch a spot in the CCC tournament. College of Idaho (18-30, 9-17), the only team behind SOU still in playoff contention, hosts a doubleheader against the Raiders today, and SOU travels to face Concordia next Friday. Southern Oregon could have alleviated its playoff pressure with a split against Eastern Oregon but was held to one earned run on 11 hits on the day in back-to-back masterful performances by Mountaineers’ pitcher Lindsey Walchli. In Game 1, Marisa Gonzalez’s RBI double with nobody out in the fourth inning scored Cassie Wendt from second. The Mountaineers loaded the bases, but SOU pitcher Brianne Craig induced a groundout to end the inning. Craig (12-7) struck out five and walked three while limiting Eastern to five hits. Walchli struck out two with one walk while holding SOU to three hits. The Raiders had runners at second and third with two outs in the seventh, but Wachli struck out pinch hitter Davalin Ontiveros to end the game. In the second game, the Mountaineers (18-25, 9-17) scored all the runs they would need on three hits in the first. SOU nearly came back. Jazmin Ruvalcaba’s RBI single in the sixth cut the lead to one and the Raiders again put the tying run in scoring position with two outs in the seventh, but Wachli got Gina Ayala to fly out to cap another clutch performance. Megan Winton and Ayala had two hits apiece for the Raiders, who left 10 baserunners stranded in the nightcap. Eastern’s Shelby Baertsch was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.   Prep Golf At Klamath Falls, T.J. Ferriera had two birdies and shot a 23-over par 95 to lead the Ashland boys at Running Y on Friday. Ben Burkholder shot a 103 and Conner Thompson a 104 as Ashland finished with a team score of 354. Ava Altig fired a 99 to lead the Ashland girls.   Karate At Las Vegas, Ashland 9-year-old Alexandra Acevedo won the Advanced Musical Forms title and placed third in Traditional Weapons Kata at the USKA National Championships recently.
