The first film is "The Music Box" (1932), which stars Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy as inept movers who attempt to deliver a piano to a hilltop home. The long stair sequence is considered a comedy gem. "The Music Box" won the Academy Award for best short subject of 1932. The evening's second film is considered by many to be one of the greatest American movies ever made. "To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962) is the story of a black man falsely accused of the rape of a white woman in the deep South. Gregory Peck won the Academy award for best actor as Atticus Finch, attorney for the defense. A very young Robert Duvall is also featured in a small, but pivotal role. "To Kill a Mockingbird" is listed on the American Film Institute's top fifty films of all time and was nominated for numerous Academy awards including Best Picture. A musical short subject will precede the movies and an old time intermission reel will be shown between features. The Christian Church of Ashland, located on the corner of 2nd and B St. in Ashland. The box office opens at 6 p.m. Admission is free. Donations accepted but not required. A snack bar will be open the entire evening.
