Wright, Morgan pace Grizz harriers Wire Reports OREGON CITY - Andy Wright and David Morgan established lifetime bests to help the Ashland High boys cross country team to seventh place at the New Balance Invitational on Saturday. Wright clocked 15 minutes, 50 seconds and Morgan was timed in 15:54 over the flat 5,000-meter course at Clackamas Community College. Beaverton's Stuart Eagon set a course record of 15:09 to win the event that matched many of Oregon's and Washington's top runners. Mount Spokane High of Spokane, Wash., won the boys' team competition with 82 points. "Morgan PR'd by 30 seconds," Ashland coach Bob Julian Jr. said. "He worked hard in the off-season and it really showed today." In the girls' race, North Medford's Danielle Jordan clocked a respectable 18:13 but took third behind Tualatin High standout Meghan Armstrong (18:02) and Bend's Kimber Mattox (18:10). The Black Tornado girls finished 11th as a team. "Those top three girls ran together the whole way and pushed each other," North Medford coach Pete Voskes said. "Danielle ran aggressively. She threw in some surges and made the other girls react to her, but Armstrong was just too tough." Voskes was also pleased with sophomore Alicia Preston, who finished 36th in 20:41. "That's almost a two-minute PR for her," he said. Ashland's Alyssa Taylor took 20th in the invitational division, hitting the tape in 21 minutes flat. Hannah Clark was 33rd in 21:31 and Briana Lescher 34th in 21:34. Boys' Soccer At Coos Bay, Casey Murdock scored the winning goal in the 62nd minute to give Marshfield a 2-1 nonconference win over Ashland. Fabian Garcia tied the score for Ashland (1-3) five minutes before halftime after Marshfield took the initial lead. Girls' Soccer At Ashland, Kayla Eichamer scored two goals as St. Mary's (2-0) beat the Ashland junior varsity team 3-1 in a nonconference match. The Crusaders' Renee Huizinga broke a scoreless tie in the 23rd minute when she scored off a pass from Britta Beckstead. Eichamer deposited a loose ball in the 28th minute, then scored off a corner kick 12 minutes later to make it 3-0 at halftime.
