SOU men's soccer team readies for first-ever home match Raiders to host Walla Walla on Friday Comment By SOU Sports Information DailyTidings.com By SOU Sports Information Posted Sep. 16, 2015 at 8:37 PM By SOU Sports Information Posted Sep. 16, 2015 at 8:37 PM » Social News Almost a month into the season, Southern Oregon University will finally unveil its new men's soccer program to a Raider Stadium crowd this weekend. The Raiders (5-2 overall, 0-2 Cascade Conference) will play their first-ever home games at 3 p.m. Friday against Walla Walla (0-0) and 7:30 p.m. Saturday against Multnomah (0-3) in CCC action. Winners of their first five in nonleague play, SOU was introduced to one of the top players in the circuit, Joe Bolin, who scored twice in SOU's 4-0 loss Friday at College of Idaho. Then the Raiders battled Rocky Mountain – which has advanced to the last three NAIA tournaments – before falling 3-2 in Billings, Mont., on Sunday. "We've been working hard to prepare for our first home games and we're very excited for that, but we're also just excited to play again and redeem ourselves after last weekend," SOU coach Biniam Afenegus said. "For a young team, they found out quick about the level of competition and intensity from nonleague to league play. I think we progressed from that first (CCC) game to the second in terms of focus, determination and execution." Quick Hits : • Kirk Bassett and Diego Buenrostro scored to keep the Raiders in their game at Rocky. Buenrostro, Ahmon Afenegus and Brendan Allen lead the team with three goals apiece. • SOU's shutout streak of 255 minutes ended when College of Idaho scored in the third minute of Friday's game. • Goalkeeper Jonathan Morales has a save percentage of .875 in 180 minutes played, and Tyler Luebbert has made 19 saves in 365 minutes. Both keepers own one shutout each. • Ten Raiders have goals to their names and eight have been credited with assists. Afenegus, Dakota Marquez and Brayan Molina have two assists apiece. • SOU's leaders in minutes played are Johnnie Workman (517) and Brett Butler (500). About Walla Walla : A first-year member of the CCC and the NAIA, the Wolves ended 2014 with a record of 2-11, their only wins coming against Multnomah (2-1 and 6-0). They have yet to play this season. About Multnomah : The Lions, also a first-year member of the CCC and NAIA, have lost this year to Eastern Oregon (6-0), Linfield (5-0) and Trinity Lutheran (8-1).
