ScienceWorks Hands-on Museum in Ashland is celebrating the occasion one month into the future with their event The Future of Back to the Future on Saturday, Nov. 21. The event will explore the technology, culture and special effects of the iconic film series. The most memorable feature of the films is the car that Marty and Doc use to time travel, the DeLorean with its wing-like doors. ScienceWorks has teamed up with Pacific Northwest DeLorean Club member Mark Vanyo from Bothell, Wash., and he will have his 1981 DeLorean on site, complete with a fabricated flux capacitor, for visitors to view and explore. In addition to bringing the iconic car, Vanyo will also display movie memorabilia, including authentic photos of the cast during filming, sketches of the original flux capacitor, the futuristic Pepsi bottles used in the films and a toy Hoverboard. Visitors to this one-day event can create their own holograms, design fashions of the future using high-tech fabrics, create flux capacitors using LEDs and conductive materials, explore magnetic levitation, play with green-screen special effects technology, and much more. In keeping with the original movie, guests can also see themed demonstrations every hour starting at 11:04, the minute time stopped on the clock tower. The Future of Back to the Future event is included with museum admission, $8 for children ages 2–12 and seniors 65 and older, $10 for teens and adults, and free for members and children under 2. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Event details are available at www.scienceworksmuseum.org/future .
