Free Admission Day at ScienceWorks: The museum, 1500 E. Main St., hosts exhibits year-round that explore energy, anatomy, chemistry, perception, motion, engineering and more. Poet Laureate Reading: Oregon Poet Laureate Peter Sears will read from his book "Small Talk: New and Selected Poems: from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, in the Gresham Room of the library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd. Sears, of Corvallis, was recently appointed to the post by Governor John Kitzhaber. He came to Oregon in 1974 as a writer in residence at Reed College, and has served as the community services coordinator for the Oregon Arts Commission and director and founder of the Oregon Literary Coalition. Sears' poetry collection "The Brink" was named one of Oregon's 150 best books by the Oregon State Library. The reading is free. Call 541-774-6980. Saturday, Sept. 13 Bird Walks: Stroll through North Mountain Park with local birding experts to see and hear the varieties of birds that spend their summers in the Rogue Valley, from 8 to 9 a.m. the second Saturday of every month. Rogue Valley Jeff All Stars: A fundraiser featuring seven local musicians named Jeff will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Grizzly Peak Winery, 1600 E. Nevada St. The concert will include performances by Jeff Pevar, Jef Fretwell, Jeff Addicot, Jeff Stanley, Jeff Jones and Jeff Kloetzel among others. Jeff Golden and Geoffrey Riley will emcee.
