--> --> Oregon in brief Teen dies after fall at Crooked River Gorge CROOKED RIVER RANCH - A 15-year-old boy died from injuries he suffered after falling about 20 feet while climbing around the rim of the Crooked River Gorge. Elijah Keller, who had just completed his freshman year in high school, and two friends decided to climb down the cliff Monday afternoon and descend to the river. Keller lost his step, tumbled and fell about 20 feet, landing on a slender ledge of rock. Keller was also hit in the head with a rock. Crooked River fire medics arrived about 1{ hours later and hoisted Keller, still conscious and able to say where he hurt, out of the gorge. He was rushed to the St. Charles Medical Center in a AirLife helicopter and pronounced dead at 5:57 p.m. Monday as a result of serious internal and head injuries, hospital spokeswoman Ellen Howe said. Teen found after reporting kidnapping ROSEBURG - A Myrtle Creek family will be reunited with their teen-aged daughter after the girl called from Mexico to say she had been kidnapped. Megan Dyanne Wendel, 15, disappeared in Los Angeles while traveling alone by bus from Waco, Texas, to Roseburg. She called her parents Monday morning from Mexico, saying she had been kidnapped. Wendel was taken into custody by U.S. Customs agents at the San Ysidro, Calif., border crossing Monday night, Myrtle Creek Police Chief Cecil T. Earp said. Wendel was at a San Diego hospital Tuesday waiting to be picked up by her parents. It is not known how or why she was let go, or how she made her way to the border. The FBI is investigating. Rescue crews search for missing hiker BEND - Ground and air rescue crews searched the Three Sisters Wilderness area Tuesday for a missing hiker. Corwin Osborne, of Bellevue, Wash., was scheduled to return from a hike Sunday evening. The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office said 45-year-old is an experienced hiker and is carrying an overnight backpack and cell phone. The search began Monday. On Tuesday, an Air Force Reserve helicopter joined local crews and an Oregon State Police plane already at the scene. Rescuers are concentrating their work between 5,000 and 10,000 feet in mountainous terrain west of Bend. Associated Press Email your...
