Has he met her? Talked with her? Questioned her about her views? Does he know her history in this Valley? Clearly not, for in his recent defamatory letter to the Tidings, he cited nothing - not a thing - that is based on any fact, just on his "beliefs," his hunches, his guesses, his distortions. It is tempting here to launch into an attack on Brent Thompson, but that would make me guilty of the same thing he's done to Elizabeth Fujas. I don't know him. And I don't know his agenda. But I do know Elizabeth. So here's the truth. Elizabeth Fujas has lived in, worked in, raised a family in - and loved - this Valley for nearly a quarter of a century. She has farms here that she has kept as farms; she is not a 'partitioner' of land by any means. She has been concerned for the environment and the health of the people in it. In fact, she raised and harvested natural crops on her own land and pioneered the manufacture of healthy foods decades before it was chic to do so. She has been a positive force in the community; and rather than sitting back, bemoaning change and sniping at those with whom she disagrees, she has become an active participant in channeling change into a positive direction. It is my understanding that she was asked to be on the planning commission precisely for the reasons cited above: her common sense, her concern for the community, and her understanding of the need for balance between the land and people who live on it. Let's be glad there are people like Elizabeth Fujas who love this Valley and who are willing to take on such a job - subjecting themselves to the unwarranted assaults of the Brent Thompsons of the world - while the rest of us sit back and enjoy the benefits.
