Pippa-Baker went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Georgia Williams struck out eight in a complete-game effort in the circle as the Grizzlies won for the seventh time in their last eight games to improve to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the MWL. The Grizziles are the only one-loss team left in the seven-team conference and are tied with Churchill (9-5, 5-2) for first place. In the sixth, Ashland leadoff hitter Teresa Lehman started the game-winning rally with a single to right, then stole second and third before coming home on an error by the catcher. Later, Williams drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a fielder’s choice, stole third and scored on Pippa-Baker’s rip up the middle. Madie Priaulx’s two-out single to right kept the Highlanders’ hopes alive in the seventh, but a runner’s interference call near the first-base line clinched it for Ashland. Priaulx went 3-for-4 with an RBI and pitcher Teresa Sorensen went the distance in the circle for the Highlanders (5-8, 2-4), who have lost three straight. Ashland scored two runs on a walk and two singles in the first inning to take control early. Hannah Teixiera drew a one-out walk, stole second then came home on Grace Lenthe’s line drive single to left. Lenthe then stole second and scored on Pippa-Baker’s first hit of the day, a single down the first-base line. North Eugene cut the lead in half thanks to a three-base error in the second then tied the game on another error in the third, but left the go-ahead run stranded at third when Williams fielded Sorensen’s grounder. Williams was clutch again in the fifth, when the Highlanders loaded the bases on a walk, a single and a hit batsman. That brought up Sorensen, who grounded out to second.
