The setbacks dropped the Raiders to 1-3 in conference play and 20-12 overall. Corban continued its strong start to league play, improving to 7-1 in the CCC and 23-5 overall. In the opener, SOU’s Kristin Ahern crushed a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1, but Corban buried SOU in the bottom of the inning, scoring seven runs on five hits — including a solo shot by Annie Owen that gave the Warriors the lead for good — and four walks. The Raiders scored first on Megan Scherer’s RBI ground-out, but were held to one run the rest of the way by Corban pitcher Emily Buhrkuhl. The junior righty held SOU to two runs on five hits in the complete-game effort. SOU’s Cheyenne Bricker surrendered five earned runs on seven hits while striking out four. Reliever Brianne Craig gave up two earned runs on one hit and was victimized by SOU’s fielding miscues, which led to three more unearned runs. In Game 2, the Warriors rocked the Raiders with 11 hits, including three homers, to finish the game after six innings by the eight-run mercy rule (the first game also was stopped after six). Sophomore third baseman Anne Binschus went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, and junior catcher Jamie Costa went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and another bomb. Tyler Burke went 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead SOU, but the rest of the Raiders’ lineup was a combined 1-for-20 as Corban pitcher Jessica Holsinger tossed a three-hit complete game. Southern Oregon’s Sydney White was roughed up in the circle, giving up 10 earned runs on 10 hits with five walks and a strikeout. The Raiders will try to bounce back today against Northwest Christian.
