As chair of the planning commission and one who has advocated good planning and preservation of our resource lands, I would argue that her appointment will reduce pressure to develop our rural lands, not increase it. In our commission's efforts to carry out state policy of preserving farm land, one thing we have been lacking for the last several years is the viewpoint of a working farmer, someone who not only wants to preserve farm land but also has a vision of how to do that and make it productive to our community. It's not enough just to protect farm land. We also have to insure that it can be used as farm land for that protection to be of any benefit. To those who see a threat in appointing a planning commissioner who will advocate for the agricultural use of farm land, I would urge them to take a wider view: The successful maintenance of a vibrant agricultural industry in the Rogue Valley will reduce the pressure on farmers to sell their land for development. Reeve Hennion Chair, Jackson County Planning Commission Jacksonville Vote for Buckley Peter Buckley is a man of vision, honesty and integrity of his beliefs. No one can hear Peter speak, without being inspired by his positive outlook and positive vision for the future and his stated view that our government is not an alien enemy, but belongs to us as citizens, for our benefit. Peter Buckley's vision is of an Oregon with schools, health care, and productive communities that are a model for the nation. I trust that his confidence, tireless energy, and boundless good humor will help get us there. We need Peter Buckley's leadership, enthusiasm and capabilities in Salem to help us get our state back on track.
