ASHLAND New pool a possibility at SOU City Council, Parks Commission to hold joint meeting Comment By Bert Etling Daily Tidings DailyTidings.com By Bert Etling Daily Tidings Posted Feb. 10, 2015 at 2:00 AM Updated Feb 10, 2015 at 3:01 PM By Bert Etling Daily Tidings Posted Feb. 10, 2015 at 2:00 AM Updated Feb 10, 2015 at 3:01 PM » Social News Possible inclusion of a new pool in the remodeling of the McNeil Pavilion at Southern Oregon University is among items up for discussion at a joint meeting of the Ashland City Council and Parks & Recreation Commission on Wednesday, Feb. 11.  (Correction: This date has been updated.) Also on the agenda are adoption of Parks Commission goals for 2015-2017 and increased Parks & Recreation use of The Grove facility. The five top proposed goals are, in order: Partnering with other community organizations to build a new, competition-style, year-round indoor swimming pool for the community to fill the gap left by the planned demolition of the existing SOU pool later this year; transferring The Grove from a city-operated facility to a Parks & Recreation facility with increased use; move ahead with sidewalks on Winburn Way and at the Clay Street Dog Park; update the trails and open space comprehensive plan; and select a consultant for the Lithia Park Master Plan.  SOU has agreed a pool could be attached to the reconstructed McNeal Pavilion, according to Parks Director Michael Black's staff report for the meeting, but funding sources for both the upfront capital costs for the pool and ongoing operating costs will need to be found. The joint meeting is set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 1175 East Main St. By Bert Etling Daily Tidings DailyTidings.com By Bert Etling Daily Tidings Posted Feb. 10, 2015 at 2:00 AM Updated Feb 10, 2015 at 3:01 PM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
