FRIDAY February 20, 2004 - Subscribe - Contact Us - Rate Card Valley&State Backpage O&E Sports Archives Classifieds Faith&Beliefs Obituaries Revels November 21, 2003 Lack of flags was disrespectful to soldiers, veterans I, along with every other veteran in Ashland, am feeling the extreme insult, and lack of any due respect, with every year that goes by that the City of Ashland does not have the common courtesy to display our U.S. ensign (flag) up and down our new, multimillion-dollar Siskiyou Boulevard. I am of the understanding that the local Kiwanis is the organization that displays our flag on other holidays? Most recently for Election Day, and everyone was asking why the flags were out. When I called the head member of the Kiwanis, he said there was light drizzle in the forecast, so they would not be displayed (flown). If allowed to, the flags will dry out for storage. I ask you ... does it rain on our troops? Does it rain on July 4, Martin Luther King Day, Election day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day or any other significant days of the year in this country that we fly the U.S. flag? What, pray tell, is any more significant than our troops, here and abroad, that are amidst such a "can of worms" as this mess they're in presently? Won't be home for Thanksgiving, or Christmas, or anytime soon. Just like it was in Vietnam, and with the same lack of respect for veterans. Stephen J.
