There isn't one standard that everyone agrees with. Moral outrage from people who don't like it won't change the behavior of others, and law enforcement cannot effectively prevent it. Someone pointed out that perhaps the real issue is that we don't want to offend tourists. If that is the case, the city council should tackle the core problem head on and pass a law against offending tourists. That would cover failing to dress properly of course. But since it might be hard to identify tourists in every case, we might need to go all the way with a law against being offensive to anyone. Sort of the mother-of-all laws so to speak. We sure would need a lot more cops on the street to enforce that! But I'm personally worried a law against being offensive might put a terrible crimp in my style. Paul Copeland Ashland Problem solved Kudos to the Ashland Electric Department. Recently, a high-rise moving van tore a meter and some power lines from my house and left them dangling. A call to the after-hours number brought a quick assessment of the damage and possible danger. Early next morning, two workmen arrived with repairs. In three hours, they restored power and order to the scene while carefully-protecting my plants. It's good to live in Ashland.
