The Pilots were held to just 12 hits in two games, as the Klamath Hawks scorched Ashland with a doubleheader sweep, 12-2 and 5-2 Tuesday at North Mountain Park. Pilots pitcher Andrew Del Carlo gets tagged out by the Hawks' third baseman to end an ill-fated run down between second and third. Klamath dominated the double-header at North Mountain Park on Tuesday to knock the Pilots down to 2-12 in league play. Denise Baratta | Ashland Daily Tidings "We didn't bring the bats, obviously, and there's no reason for it," Ashland coach Hank Munn said. "Those guys were not that dominating on the mound, in my opinion. We just weren't hitting. The guys looked worn out." The losses dropped Ashland to 2-13 overall and 2-12 in Area 4 play with 12 games left on its schedule. The Pilots' last nonleague game of the season is Thursday at Weed. They'll also play in the Pilots Alumni Game, an exhibition contest, at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Pilots managed just five hits off Klamath pitcher Ryan Starley in Game 1 and seven hits off Kody Fritz in Game 2. The Hawks, meanwhile, answered every challenge from the home team and never trailed. Game 1 In the opener, Ashland scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 2-all, but the Hawks came back with two in the fifth and eight in the sixth to end the game early by the 10-run mercy rule. C.J. Carlin and Dane Hoppe drove home two runs apiece in the sixth to help the Hawks put the game away. Ashland didn't help its cause by committing four errors. Andrew Del Carlo started on the mound for the Pilots and went 5 1/3 innings before Aaron Decker took over. Decker, who pitched well during last week's 16-5 win over Central Point, allowed five hits and five earned runs over the next 2/3 inning. Game 2 In the nightcap, the Pilots scored once to tie the game in the third then did the same in the fourth, but were shut out the rest of the way by Fritz. The Hawks scored one in the fifth on Carlin's RBI double and added two insurance runs in the seventh on run-scoring hits by James Nygren (single) and Collier Picard (double). Aaron San Nicholas pitched the entire game for Ashland, allowing 11 hits and five earned runs. He walked three and struck out two. The Pilots scored on an RBI-double by Del Carlo and an RBI-single by Decker. "We lost our focus, our concentration," Munn said. "We're still making little mistakes, things that kill you, extend innings and make it look ugly in the end. We just gotta learn to do the little things more than anything else. We keep making the same mistakes time and time again and they're just killing us." FIRST GAME Klamath 110 028 - 12 7 2 Ashland 000 200 - 2 5 4 Starley and Hoppe; Del Carlo, Decker (6) and Sollinger.
