Duffy on sabbatical from ranger district By Vickie Aldous Ashland Daily Tidings Ashland District Ranger Linda Duffy is stepping down from her post for a six month sabbatical. "It will be a time for me to pursue my educational plans and have some family time, and for general rejuvenation and relaxation," she said, noting that she requested and was granted the leave time. Duffy said she will be doing some work in human behavior, which is her background field. Her plans also include traveling. John Schuyler, deputy forest supervisor for the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in far northeastern Oregon, will serve as acting district ranger from July 7 to Dec. 29, when Duffy is slated to return. "He's very pleased to be here. He really loves this part of the state," Duffy said. Schuyler has served as a district ranger before and has experience in all areas of resource management, she said. On Wednesday, Schuyler met with Ashland Mayor Alan DeBoer, Ashland Fire Chief Keith Woodley, representatives of Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., and others. Duffy said Schuyler is interested in working with community members. "His bias is toward collaboration, which is good for our community," she said. During her career with the U.S. Forest Service, Duffy has gained a reputation for working closely with community members and listening to public input.
