Look for classical music and original melodies. Nilsen founded his independent record label, Magic Wing, in 1987 and has a catalog of 19 successful titles with international distribution. DIY Biology Day at ScienceWorks ScienceWorks Hands-on Museum will host a day of playful experiences that introduce visitors to the tools and techniques of tinkering with biology from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. at the museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland. Look for activities and experiments that will spark interest in the fields of bioengineering, synthetic biology and agriculture — such as dissecting plants and extracting plant DNA. Howard Alden Seven-string guitarist Howard Alden of Manhattan will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at Paschal Winery, 1122 Suncrest Road, Talent. Alden will be joined for several duets by jazz guitarist Ed Dunsavage. Alden is a Concord Jazz recording artist and has worked as a versatile bandleader, soloist and sideman. He's recorded with guitarist George Van Eps, and he played all the solos and coached film star Sean Penn in the art of guitar for Woody Allen's 1999 "Sweet and Lowdown." Britt Orchestra's Symphony Pops with Halie Loren The Britt Orchestra, conducted by Teddy Abrams, will present a program of jazzy pop featuring vocalist Halie Loren at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, in the Britt Pavilion, 350 S. First St., Jacksonville. Loren's vocals are steeped in old-school soul, blues and jazz. Her newest album, "Butterfly Blue," was released early this year. Tickets are $20 for reserved seating, $5 for lawn, $5 for ages 12 and younger, and can be purchased online at brittfest.org , at the box office, 216 W. Main St., Medford, or by calling 541-773-6077. 'Timon of Athens' Timon is a wealthy man with lots of friends, but when the money runs out, so do they. Hurt and disappointed, he turns his back on the world until reality finds him again as he stumbles onto another fortune. Is this Timon's chance to discover his true friends and rejoin society? Amanda Dehnert directs this rarely staged tragedy by William Shakespeare, and Anthony Heald stars.
