Either he was careless or wished to mislead his readers. Whichever, I don't know why the Daily Tidings puts up with his shenanigans. Herbert Rothschild Phoenix Embrace the future I was disappointed to read the decision of the City Council to exclude R1 residences from allowing transient visitor guest accommodations. Saturday morning I read Ruth Resch’s very thoughtful guest opinion. Ashland is a lovely, but expensive, town to live in. When longtime, good citizens' fortunes change, renting a room can make the difference between staying or leaving. Our town’s population is ever growing older. Lower retirement income, the loss of a spouse, unexpected disability, etc., could make staying in one’s home unaffordable. Income from renting a room or apartment on a temporary basis would make all the difference. As a frequent traveler, I have enjoyed the opportunity to stay in other people’s homes through Airbnb and VRBO. These places aren’t a substitute for a hotel or B&B, but rather an interesting diversion giving a completely different flavor to a vacation. The traveler gets a taste of how it might feel to be a real resident and encourages returns. It helps everyone. I hope the council will reconsider the R1 restriction on temporary visitor accommodations. This concept is the future — let’s not be afraid to embrace it. Claudia Little Ashland No Plaza do-over I agree with Dave Kanner. This preset redesign was just completed not very long ago, and was decided on in collaboration. Citizens had their opportunity to give their input. I don’t think it should even be considered to redo it again. What a waste of money that would be. Amber Wiley Talent A train at last! Looking out the window of my retirement home a moment ago, I was staggered to see a train going down the tracks toward greater Ashland, that is, the old depot. It consisted of a number of empty freight cars. I have to say that I let out an enormous shout and was very nearly wildly excited. I just had to tell each of you. This is big news to an old Ashlander like me. In 1927, my mother got off a leased train out of Philadelphia and tried to drink Ashland lithia water. I have her diary.
