--> --> Deputy sues owner of cow BEND (AP) - A Deschutes County sheriff's deputy injured when his patrol car struck a cow is suing the animal's owner for $895,000. And the county wants $21,039 for the vehicle, which was totaled. Deputy Sterling Todd Williver says Kathleen Popish allowed her cow to roam off her property. On the night of Nov. 7, 1999, Williver was responding to a call for backup to help with a suicidal person in Sisters when he hit the 1,000-pound black cow on Highway 126. Williver sustained a skull fracture, a concussion, a broken nose and cheek and torn left eyelid. His left arm was broken. The cow died. Williver has returned to work but the left side of his face is still paralyzed, and he is deaf in his left ear and has trouble closing his left eye, according to his lawsuit. Email your...
