[Courtesy photo] Wednesday Aug 2, 2017 at 2:00 AM Local report Tree-Free Greetings will give away free greeting cards at Ashland Food Co-op from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, to promote their summer campaign: “Social Networking, the Old-Fashioned Way.” Combining nostalgic thoughtfulness with modern environmental awareness, the company aims to bring back the unique sentiment of letter-writing without compromising environmental values. “Our mission is to inspire people to deepen their relationships by using greeting cards — a method far more thoughtful than text or email,” says Steve Silverstein, the company’s founder and president. Tree-Free’s summer campaign will cross the country, popping up at natural food markets. Shoppers are encouraged to reach out to just about anyone and share their letter-writing story. Tree-Free uses solar energy to print their greeting cards  on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper and wheat straw (an agricultural by-product) in Keene, New Hampshire.
