FBI Offers $25,000 Reward for Information Relevant to Bomb Blasts at Ballot Boxes in Oregon and Washington Crime & Courts By Lucille McNamara On Jan 17, 2025 Recent fires in ballot drop boxes in Portland, Oregon The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person responsible for a series of attacks at ballot boxes in Portland and Washington. Suspect is Unusually Knowledgeable about Explosives The FBI is searching for an individual who is unusually knowledgeable about explosives or incendiary devices, particularly thermite. The individual also displays an interest in grinding or welding metal. Yesterday, the FBI released a press statement, photographs, and a surveillance video of the suspect’s car. Anyone with information about the owner is asked to contact them as a matter of urgency before the suspect strikes again. The public should contact the FBI if they know the owner of a black or dark grey 2004 Volvo S-60 sedan who recently disposed of the vehicle. The agency says the thermite devices created by the suspect can cause severe injuries and damage structures. Do YOU Know Someone Like This? The FBI is asking the public if they know someone: Who brags or approves of the person who placed the incendiary devices in the ballot boxes. Who has followed the case closely. Who became anxious or fearful when the topic was raised. If they noticed any unusual packages or metal shavings. If they saw unexplained fire damage to a home, structure, field, or wilderness area. If they noticed unusual behavior, including someone they know who has been researching thermite and grinding metals. If they saw someone collecting metal scraps such as pipe endcaps, nuts and bolts, or undertaking small welding projects. The $25,000 reward is for information that will lead to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person responsible for the crimes. The incidents occurred last October before the November 5 election and are still under investigation by the FBI in collaboration with the Portland Police Bureau and the Vancouver Police Department. Portland Police Bureau is Offering a Separate $2,500 Reward Meanwhile, the Portland Police Bureau is offering a separate award of up to $2,500 via CrimeStoppers.
