WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL No. 13 SOU falls to Concordia in CCC semis Raiders still likely to be included in NAIA tourney By SOU Sports Information DailyTidings.com By SOU Sports Information Posted Nov. 14, 2014 @ 8:11 pm By SOU Sports Information Posted Nov. 14, 2014 @ 8:11 pm » Social News PORTLAND — The Concordia Cavaliers exacted a little revenge on the 13th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team Friday, winning the final three sets to steal a 24-26, 17-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-9 Cascade Conference semifinal match at Warner Pacific's C.C. Perry Gym. The 24th-ranked Cavaliers (19-8 overall), who were the No. 3 seed in the tournament, had four players with double-digit kill totals: Lindsey Dorsey (16), Brenna Huwe (12), Brianna Hogan (11) and Ashley Jibbey. They'll be in the CCC championship match today against either top-seeded Eastern Oregon or fourth-seeded College of Idaho. SOU (23-4) attacked at averages of .095 in the third set, .086 in the fourth and negative-.065 in the fifth after hitting .253 in the first two. The Raiders, who shared the regular season CCC title with EOU, are still likely to be included in the NAIA playoff field. They'll await their fate with the release of the final NAIA top-25 poll due out Sunday and the first-round pairings on Monday. The match was originally scheduled to be played in La Grande, but a winter storm kept the teams in Portland. Motade Atanda had 16 kills and 15 digs, Paulla Pinheiro had 15 kills and 15 digs, and Sam Boehnke chipped in 13 kills and four blocks for the Raiders. They battled back from a 22-16 deficit in the first set, not taking the lead until a Laura Morse service ace made it 25-24. Concordia's ball-handling error gave SOU the win. The Raiders cruised in the second stanza, claiming seven of the last nine points. The third set was tied at 24-all before Hogan's kill and a Raider attacking error. The Cavaliers won the fourth handily and jumped out to an 8-1 advantage in the fifth, though SOU closed the gap to 12-8 with a 4-1 run. Last Friday, Concordia had a 2-1 lead in sets over the Raiders in Ashland before dropping the last two. It was SOU's fifth straight victory in five-set matches. Lauren McGowne recorded 29 assists and 10 digs, Tyana Andrews had 22 assists and Brookelynn Cole had a match-high 29 digs for SOU. Concordia's Jenessa Taylor went for 49 assists and 14 digs. The Cavs have won four of their last five meetings with SOU.
