University gains grant Southern Oregon University has received a $220,000 Department of Education Trio McNair Post Baccalaureate Program Federal grant. The Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program awards grants to higher education institutions for projects designed to prepare participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. McNair participants are from disadvantaged backgrounds who have demonstrated strong academic potential. Institutions work closely with these participants through their undergraduate requirements, encourage their entrance into graduate programs, and track their progress. The University of Oregon also received a $220,417 grant. The U of O is the only other institution in the state besides SOU to receive funding in 2003.
