(formerly of the Rogue Valley) passed away at 5:45 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2005 at St. Luke's in Carthage following a lengthy illness. Martha was born April 4, 1915, to P. L. and Mary Potter, on her dad's homestead in Avard, OK with the help of her father's brother's wife; a doctor came later to see if the baby was OK. He put some drops in her eyes and sent in a birth certificate later. She had one older sister, Mary. Martha became a surrogate mother to the ten children that followed her. She made a significant difference to every one of these children. After Jesse was born the family moved to a farm outside of Lamar, Mo. where all of the remaining children were born. She worked outside with her dad most of her young life. For example, she drove the team of horses when she was 8 all by herself for long distances. She went to work at a roadside caf� near Nevada, with her sister Sarah, where she learned a lot about being a good cook, especially making great pies. She met Charles Wilson there and he is the father of her five children. He died when she was pregnant with David in 1944. She raised the five small children by herself by taking in laundry, ironing and cleaning other people's houses. She took her children to church every Sunday and they were always well dressed and clean. Each child was very responsible for chores and helping each other to get a good education. Four of the five are college graduates and the other one owned and ran a successful business for many years. Each child has lived a good, healthy and successful life. They are about as loyal and devoted to her as any children could be today. She moved from Joplin to California in 1955. There she met Eugene Williams and they had a very happy life together for 30 years. Martha was married to Eugene February 7, 1962 in Ontario, CA, he preceded her in death. Martha lived a rich and productive life and enjoyed it every day. She set a standard for all of us to follow. She has left many legacies by her example, memories of her, her crocheting, her stories, her cooking, canning, and most of all, her positive attitude and regal bearing. She moved from Ashland, Oregon to Joplin in 2005. Martha was a beautiful person, both inside and outside. She set the standard for truly caring about other people, their concerns and needs. She taught us how to be good neighbors. She really did listen; she never judged what she was listening to. She gave plenty of time for each person to figure out what was best for them and it usually worked out better than expected. She always gave each person the feeling that she really cared about them for themselves. Although she was what would be considered "deprived" in material ways she never let that stand in her way of feeling like she was the luckiest person in the world and had everything she needed or wanted, and then she would help others in so many ways. She volunteered until her last few years in taking things to "old people." She assisted people in her church family by driving them to their appointments. She also helped students at the nearby college in Ashland, OR. She put others before herself, it seemed. Survivors include three sons, Charles S. Wilson and his wife Evelyn; Gene Wilson and his wife Joan both of Oronogo, MO; David Wilson and wife Myna of Hornbrook, CA.: two daughters, Jane Wilson of Carl Junction, MO; Bedah Wilson of Carterville,MO; two brothers, Burt Potter of Eldorado, KS, and John Potter of Seattle, WA.; seven sisters, Mary Swingler of St. Louis, MO, Kate Webb of Iantha, MO., Sarah Hinkley of Medford, Or., Jesse Lewis of Nevada, Mo., Ruth Bell of Lamar, MO., Deane Johnson of Bolder, CO., and Ann Christman of Carthage, MO. Additional survivors include, 15 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Hope Cemetery with Reverend Ted Estes, officiating. The family will receive friends at Mason Woodard Mortuary & Chapel from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday before the service. Memorial contributions in Martha's memory may be given to the Parkinson's Foundation or Ozark Christian College in care of Mason-Woodard Mortuary, 3701 E. 7th St., Joplin, MO 64801. Mary Alice Virginia Jones Mary Alice Virginia Jones, age 82, former resident of Medford and Ashland, died on Friday, Nov. 11, 2005 in Klamath Falls. Graveside services, officiated by Rev. John Braund, will be held at Scenic Hills Memorial Park in Ashland on Thursday, November 17, at 11 a.m. She is survived by her sister, M. Yovonna Stimson of Wyoming; nieces, Lynn (Chapman) Allen of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Brenda Shawn Abel of Texas; numerous great nieces and nephews; and special friend Lee Crutchfield. Her parents Lloyd I. & Ethel V. (Runmel) Stimson and her husband John Lewis Jones preceded her in death. Arrangements: 0'Hair & Riggs Funeral Chapel, Klamath Falls. SPC. Matthew D. Gregg A memorial service to celebrate the life of and pay tribute to SPC. Matthew "Matt" Douglas Gregg will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Table Rock Fellowship, in Medford. A funeral service at Willamette National Cemetery has been held. Matt 30, of Medford, died Sunday, November 6, in Sunny Valley while serving his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. A full obituary was published in the Mail Tribune on Sunday, Nov. 13. Robert A. Kostka Robert A. Kostka, 77, of Ashland, died Saturday, (Nov. 12, 2005) at the Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.
