The Ashland Chamber of Commerce has produced Ashland’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration for more than 100 years. The event helps create the sense of civic pride that is embedded in our community. Join the Ashland Chamber of Commerce in celebrating Ashland’s Old Fashioned Fourth of July this year. There are many ways that you can participate in the fun. In the morning, sign up early for the Fourth of July run presented by the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission. The run, a fundraiser for both the Ashland and Phoenix High School track teams, has a 10K (6.2 mile) course and a 2-mile run/walk. Pre-register at www.ashland.or.us/JulyRun . The parade begins at 10 a.m. and your business, nonprofit or community group can participate as an entry. Nearly 100 parade entries progress from Triangle Park to the Plaza. If building a float is not your specialty, you can also watch the parade or join in as a volunteer for the chamber that day. In the afternoon, visit the sponsor, craft, food, information booths and Family Activity Zone in the park and make your way to the Butler Bandshell for live entertainment. Local music groups perform for the crowd from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. In the evening, find a special spot and watch the public fireworks display. For an enhanced viewing, watch the fireworks from the American Band College’s “Ashland Pops Show.” Tickets are available in advance at Cripple Creek Music or online at www.bandworld.org/tickets . The concert is at the Ashland High School stadium and, unless sold out, tickets will be available for purchase that evening at the gate, beginning at 6:30 p.m. This production is co-sponsored by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. The American Band College is donating $5 per ticket to assist in fundraising for the annual fireworks show. The Ashland Chamber of Commerce produces the event. Hundreds of volunteers and valuable sponsors help make it happen for the community. This year, the Ashland Chamber embarked on a crowd funding campaign to raise money specifically to enhance the fireworks show and succeeded by hitting the first tier of our goal. This year’s show will be expanded with more fireworks throughout the show’s entirety and will add an estimated duration of four to five minutes to the overall display. Thanks to the community for contributing to our campaign. Though the official campaign is over, you can still support the Fourth of July as a sponsor and the support the cost of the entire event. To do so, visit www.ashlandchamber.com/4thofjuly . Each Fourth of July has a theme that recognizes a community effort or entity that makes Ashland such a special place. The Ashland Chamber seeks nominations for both theme and Grand Marshal from the community and the committee votes on the selection. This year’s theme celebrates the 100th anniversary of Ashland’s Lithia Park and our Grand Marshals are Marge Bernard, Vice-Chair Ashland Parks Foundation; Michael Black, Director of Ashland Parks & Recreation; Tom Foster, longtime Ashland Resident and Parks Volunteer who helped initiate the Lithia Park Nature Walk Program; and Mike Gardiner, chairman of the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission. Help us celebrate Ashland’s Lithia Park and this historic anniversary. We are honored to celebrate 100 years of Lithia Park this year and recognize our parks’ champions. No matter how you chose to participate in the Fourth of July, there are a few additional items to remember. First and foremost, stay hydrated. Beat the heat and consider bringing a durable water bottle from home. Also, help us in our waste prevention and reduction efforts and clean up after yourselves along the parade route and recycle whenever possible.
