The National Weather Service reported "widespread" rain, as well as snow in the mountains, is headed for southwestern Oregon Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. The system, coming from the Gulf of Alaska, is expected to drop high temperatures into the 50s Thursday. Just under half an inch of rain is forecast to fall on Medford. Up to 6 inches of snow could fall at Lake of the Woods. Less than an inch of snow is expected to fall on the Siskiyou Summit. The past few days, spring has done a good job of mimicking summer. On April 6, the mercury climbed to 88 degrees in Medford, which smashed the previous record for that date. Medford saw a new high temperature record April 7, too, when the mercury climbed to 91 degrees, which knocked off the previous record of 83, set in 1996, weather service officials said. Highs April 8-10 were 83, 79 and 74, respectively. Temperatures are expected to bounce back to the 70s and 80s by the weekend, forecasters said. "It's springtime.
